Another Currituck, North Carolina aerial shoot for a new construction building.  The Currituck Public Safety Building is now framed out, and the first floor floor is almost in place.  A cool aerial shoot for the Dollar Tree apartment complex at Summit Pointe. It's a beautiful building, and people are already moving in.  The Armada Hoffler tower at 27th St. Virginia Beach just poured it’s top floor concrete. It’s amazing how fast it has grown!

Growing fast!Added: Saturday April 04th 2020By: Air Aspects  Wow, the Virginia Beach oceanfront construction that started only a few months ago is already up to the 5th floor! I look forward to seeing how much it has grown every 2 weeks.  An interesting project for the Coast Guard base in Portsmouth, VA. In this case, because it is military restricted airspace, I had to launch from the docks, and could not fly into the airspace at all.  My ongoing construction project in Norfolk is getting closer to wrap up. At this point, there are only a few things to be done. It’s been really interesting watching this building grow.  Spring is here, and with it will come many people trying to sell their homes. This is traditionally the time that the market is deluged with new listings. When potential buyers and realtors are looking over the MLS properties, aerial shots of houses can tell much more about the area around the home.  Air Aspects photos of an old Virginia tide mill were used for an interesting article in the House and Home magazine. It's great seeing my work in print again. No matter how many times I see them, it never gets old. Aerial Shoot for a Rental Property in Cape Charles, VAAdded: Wednesday January 22nd 2020By: Air Aspects  A beautiful sunny day for a rental house shoot just north of Cape Charles. This was an interesting shoot because the owner is applying to be a wedding/event location, and needed a visual representation of where things would be in relation to neighbors.  Construction is starting on the Currituck Public Safety Building. This will be a fun ongoing project, taking regular photos of progress.  WARNING: NSFW A visit to Cambridge Maryland to video the 2019 Warriors Rest Waterfowl Hunt. It was a great time, but SO cold thanks to a Canadian arctic blast. The video was produced from over 12 hrs of footage from 6 cameras, and is for their YouTube channel, and also for their website.  A sunny day construction aerial shoot for Armada Hoffler, who have 2 projects under construction on 27th St., Virginia Beach. This project involved a few more hoops to jump through; I had to apply for a special 2 year waiver from the FAA, and have to stay in contact with the tower at nearby Oceana Naval Air Station.  Accidents do happen, and if you're flying illegally, you can expect a knock at the door. A California man ignored the FAA's drone regulations whilst vacationing in Las Vegas. Not only was he flying in restricted airspace without permission, but he lost control of his drone, drifting away and landing next to an active runway at Las Vegas' main airport. Now he is facing nearly $20,000 in fines from the federal government. Another interesting Chesapeake Aerial Shoot for a presentation video. A company is offering parking lot maintenance and handyman services, and wanted video to highlight the things they do. It was a fun flight, but I had a lot of people stopping to check out both the drone and me. Chesapeake Aerial Shoot for a Neighborhood Civic LeagueAdded: Friday September 27th 2019By: Air Aspects  This was an interesting project. A property developer has begun clearing trees for an upcoming project in Chesapeake. Because there is already an established neighborhood next to the development, before they began, the local civic league had asked for a 100ft buffer of trees. The developers went ahead and have torn down trees right up to some homes property lines, and the civic league asked me to take photos and videos for any upcoming action they may take. Beautiful day, managed to get the shoot in between storm bands..  Because aerial photography is such a relatively new field, clients and homeowners often aren't sure how to prepare a property for an aerial shoot. Here are 10 things you can do to guarantee the best possible aerial imaging of a property.  Poplar Grove Mill and House is a historic tide mill and home located near Williams, Mathews County, Virginia. The tide mill is a two-story frame structure built after the American Civil War with a gable roof built on a narrow mole which separates a small lagoon or mill pond from the bay.  The Shopper advertising magazine in Chesapeake is publishing a story on Jones CPAs, in Virginia Beach. I was hired to take photos of their team, office and show the proximity to Virginia Beach Town Center.  About a year ago, I wrote a column about the number of people I have come across since I have been flying who were admittedly flying for clients without an FAA license or liability insurance. Many people see the drone as a means to get rich quick. They buy a drone and say they're an aerial photographer. This shoot was challenging because it was less than a mile from Norfolk International Airport. I had to apply for permissions in advance using the LAANC system, which took a couple of days to sort out. Even with approval, my height was limited to 150ft.. A big shout out to Mrs. Miller, a very kind lady who helped me out when the system didn't seem to want to cooperate.  A beautiful but chilly day taking commercial photos for Volkert Transportation and Engineering services. This shoot was to demonstrate work that had been done, with the goal of presenting to future potential customers. A great day shooting at Warriors Rest, a charity property where wounded warriors can go to relax and hunt. The owners, Don and Diane Shipley are an amazing and dedicated couple, and the 80 acre property is fully stocked for the visitors.  A super fun day on the Lafayette River in Norfolk, VA. working with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Covering the planting of oysters onto an artificial reef in the river. Great time was had by all, and a really good turnout of boats.  A fun and challenging day shooting at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach. The biggest issue was that inside the small metal hangar there was no GPS at all.. So I had to revert to the olden days (LOL 5 years ago) and ’fly-by-wire’ in and around the aircraft without a safety net! It was great fun, and a very interesting place to visit.  Fourth Commercial Real Estate shoot this week. This one was more complicated, as it was pretty much right outside Oceana Naval Air Station. There were jets on touch-and-go training flying really low literally overhead every minute or so, which meant communication with the Air Traffic Control was essential. I had to bring the drone down every time the jets were near, and take the shots quickly between passes.  Third of four commercial real estate aerial photography shoots. This one for a retirement community in Hampton, VA.  2nd of 4 commercial real estate aerial shoots this week. This one was for a neat brewpub, distillery and restaurant in Hampton, VA  First in a set of 4 commercial real estate shoots. This one in Newport News for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math school  A neat shoot with GPC Joint Venture. We were driving around looking for the best camera positions to view the new bridge replacement on I64 in Chesapeake as the construction progresses.  A fun air and ground shoot at the Calvert Cliffs State Park, in Maryland. It was very overcast, but that added to the ambiance..  Took a trip to Maryland for a Father's Day party and also a head shot photo shoot for Baleigh Doyle, a beautiful, intelligent young lady who is running for Miss Montana 2018. Too good to waste, so took the Mavic Pro to the Great Bridge bridge in Chesapeake.  An interesting aerial shoot for an accident scene a couple of days ago. A driver got a ticket, and wants aerial shots to help explain what happened to the judge when going to court.  Making the most of I think the first sunny weekend this year :) Drove over to Portsmouth for some street shooting. Also took the Mavic Pro up despite it being freezing and extremely windy.  Had a great day out. Despite it being freezing cold and very windy, it was great to see the sun again!  A very sunny, and windy photo shoot at the Jordan Bridge in south Norfolk. Several shoots encompassing not only the resort, but also several locations around Bermuda, and some other businesses like a sunset cruise catamaran. |
